Self-promotion Angst

A couple months ago, I had a professional portrait done, knowing this part of being an author was coming. I'm not big on, "Here stand against the wall over there and we'll take your picture." I'd probably have broccoli stuck in my teeth and the day would be humid and my hair would be stick straight. Or worse. It's kind of unnerving to me to have people find me as an individual. All these years, my name has been out there but it's always been associated with corporations and businesses. I always felt this fire wall around me. People didn't call my house unless it was a business call. Now all that has changed. Yesterday, I sent out a few press releases - including the photo, and I already have one interview. I'm trying to focus on the fact I need to sell books and minimize the anxieties over stalkers. Romance writers have them and I'm no different. As I tweet and post on my wall, it all seems so safe, until you start getting the strange emails back. Comes with the territory now, I guess. Well, when I "hit it big" I'll have a secretary to read all those scary posts and a bodyguard when I go on Letterman. LOL

Book sales for Awakening Allaire are going well. I have a list of 30 here who want autographed copies and my sister in-law ordered a dozen for friends and family too. I have received a number of notes from my friends at Forbidden Love and via email who also have ordered. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and I hope you enjoy the book. I can't wait to hear what you think. If you want to buy a copy - either print or EBook, here's the link: Class Act Books

I've had some time to work on my vampire story - Love Bites. I think it's coming along really well. I just finished a scene involving explosives and I was telling some readers how scary it was researching that stuff. Before 9/11, before the invasion into Iraq, I probably wouldn't have given it a passing thought. Now, I felt a little grimy and I hope the FBI figures out I'm just a fiction writer! I'm about half done with Love Bites and all the build-up is coming to a head. I have three big scenes to write and, of course, the bridging pages, before it's done. Should be about 150 pages or so when all is said and done. It's a cool story that I hope offers paranormal readers something different - and smart!

This week, I submitted my interview for The Writer's Point of View. I answered a number of questions about writing from an editor's perspective. I also will participate in the suspense writer's round robin this weekend for Romance in the Backseat. I hope I'm inspired! Tiger Woods is in town and I love to watch him play!

I mailed off my contract for First Spring yesterday. Already I'm making connections with fellow children's authors. I'll let you know when I get a publishing schedule. I'm very eager to work with the illustrator. I have some ideas in mind. It'll be interesting to see if we think alike! It's so much fun to collaborate.

Better get at it. Stay cool. It's like a sauna outside!

Until the next time.

Thank you. I can't tell from your note whether you're an author. If you come back with some questions, perhaps I can help you find other entries in this blog you'll enjoy. I know recently you can find short stories, character interviews, etc., that I wrote as part of guest appearances on blogs. It's a time-consuming process. My new book, Dangerous Love, comes out November 22. I am guest-blogging 11/19, 20, 21, 22,23, and 30th to help kick off book sales. Yes, writing the story is only a small part of the journey.

Thanks for visiting. I hope to hear from you again soon!

I do need to admit that I take pleasure in reading your weblog, even when I don't agree with you. I guess the main thing is to make people think. One of these days I will get around to starting a weblog. It will in all probability be much more for blowing off steam and much less helpful than yours is although. Keep writing and I will keep studying.

I have to admit, when I saw your URL, I figured this was spam...but your comment seems authentic enough, so I'll reply. Thank you. I don't blog as often as some prescribe nor as often as I think I should, but i don't want to bother people with entries that are just time-wasters. I think the entry you just read was written quite some time ago. The angst has certainly ramped up by now! With four books out since June, it's been quite crazy. I will say however, that it's starting to pay off. People are starting to seek me out - such as you, wherever you are! Some are asking when the next book in the series will be published and what I'm working on now. But promotion remains a huge commitment. Finding a balance between doing those things and writing is paramount. Come back and tell me what your issues are or what else interests you. It's always a lot of fun to share ideas and stories.

      Happy New Year, too!
