Canning Therapy
Tonight I canned spaghetti fixings. I went into the garden and picked a five-gallon bucket of tomatoes, huge onions, green peppers, basil, and parsley. I love the benefits of canning but man, it's a lot of mess. Hummm. And where is my mother during all this busy work? Hanging out in Germany...I mean hiding out in Germany. Well, it forced me to relax and do something else besides writing after a really busy week. I turned on Il Divo and started chopping and peeling. In the back of my mind was Love Bites, my romantic paranormal between a delicious vampire named Wade, and the lovely American woman named Jui Fabrice. Yesterday afternoon I started working on Love Bites again. I've been too busy with other stuff so I was in what I call a "forced write." Just start slugging out the words on paper to get back in the story. I admit to writing a few stalling paragraphs....which will hit the editing floor later but ultimately, I got our couple through a very difficult conversation - a farewell. It's not entirely over yet, but the path is well-paved. So, I'm chopping and peeling and listening to these wonderful men sing in Italian and Spanish and my mind is just spinning. See, Jui is suffering from what she thinks is a bad case of unrequited love. And Wade is just suffering. Vamps and humans don't mix in Wade's world and Jui doesn't know what he is. She recognizes a lot of his strange tendencies and she knows he has the gift of telepathy but more or less she wonders if he's terminally ill and that's why he won't commit. He doesn't want to die on her. What? Come on, if you read the story, you'd think it was quite plausible. ANYWAY... They're doomed by Wade's way of thinking and he'd do just about anything to change that, except turn Jui into a vampire. Anyway, through all this fall preserving, I got a really good sense of how Jui is feeling. I have a lot of difficulty writing my female characters. I don't know why, but I always identify with the men more. Go figure. I figured out a couple of sentences I need translated into Italian and tomorrow I'll write some more. I really like this book. I think it's cool and it has some elements in it that I hope editors will say are publishworthy.
It's Labor Day weekend. Not much planned around here. My sister and eldest brother invited me to go to the State Fair on Monday. I'd sure like to go. We have never done that together. We're not big on family outings and all that. Holidays and baptisms, weddings, and funerals...sadly that's about it. Anyway, school starts on Tuesday so we'll have to see how things are shaking around here. Jeff Dunham is performing that night. He is so dang cool. If you don't know who he is, he's an amazing, hilarious ventriloquist. Catch him on Comedy Central. You'll pee your pants laughing. My youngest imitates Achmed really well. Don't know if that's something to be proud of but...
I finished up my holiday piece and submitted it last night. Got through a huge editing job. I have one feature staring at me that I wish would blink so I could get it done. Our festival plans are going gang busters. I am about knee-deep in that work. I really have a lot of fun once it gets close - and it is. Up til then, it's a lot of details and coordination. And this year nobody gets free beer. What a drag. LOL
Several pals have written about Awakening Allaire after they've read it. I'm proud to say they're going ga-ga over it. Ah shucks...I told ya it was a good book. My friend in Australia, Trish (EziWoof) started a thread over at Forbidden Love to promote it. She got it in the mail yesterday and stayed up half the night reading it. I'm pretty humbled but happy about those kinds of remarks. It says I hit the SASS (Suspense, Angst, Seductive Sizzle) on the head. Find out for yourself. Class Act Books or you can buy EBooks from Fictionwise, Amazon, BookStrand, AllRomanceEBooks...your favorite retailer probably has it.
The moon is full and lovely. Venus is trailing it. Time to have a Miller and sit on the deck. Glad you made it back safely, Mike. Wish you didn't have to leave. Justin, I know you're next - again. I hate violence. Be safe soldiers, near and far.
Until the next time.
