Defrosting the Freezer

Have you ever thought of your life being something like defrosting the freezer? You unload all the crap, and then wait for it to defrost. Drip, drip, drip. Wait, wait, wait. The life of an author, at least this one, is sometimes like that. You unload all the words and then hang around waiting for stuff to happen. Is it an idea to come? Is it a submission accepted? A review to come out? A release date? An interview to be printed? Drip, drip, drip. Sometimes my patience wears thin. Maybe it's the weather. Maybe it's just the circumstances of our economy. Everyone seems to be in a waiting mode. So, what am I waiting for?

Let's see, October 31 is a good day! Halloween...Class Act Books will be over at Mistress Bella's for an afternoon chat. It's a fun way to meet the authors and the publisher (who promised me she would hang out with me at 3:00 - 4:00 so it's not just me and the crickets!). The authors and publisher (Bev Haynes) will be around. Bev edits my books, Jewel copy edits. Bev also designed both of my covers. Ask questions - crazy ones, serious ones, we'll answer. And we give out treats. For more info, check out: Class Act Books

On November 1, Avenging Allaire comes out. I'm really psyched about that book. It has a different feel to it than Awakening even though it is the sequel. I think it moves very quickly and the crime and questions are very interesting. I promise you're going to guess til the very end. The cast of characters grows quite a bit too and nobody is who they appear to be, except Devon and Allaire.

I'm looking forward to November 26 - which is Thanksgiving Day. I have a signing that night in Ely, Minnesota - my hometown. I'm scratching a hole in my head trying to figure out how many books I'll need for that signing and one in Minneapolis - and more importantly praying they will be here in time. It's a busy time of year for book printers! I've gotten 40 requests for autographed copies of Avenging from as far away as Australia. Canada is on the list and I just mailed a book to Germany. It's nice to have fans all over the world. I hope I have more than 3!

Avenging's trailer is in a contest this week at You Gotta Read Videos My competition is very stiff, but it's fun to get the exposure!Blazing Trailers Home Page has it as a featured trailer. The trailer for Awakening Allaire is over there as the featured trailer on their adult site. Many thanks to Blazing Trailers Featured for this wonderful exposure.

I'm inching into my children's books. I've started participating in the chats over at Guardian Angels Publishing. As soon as I finish my WIP, I'll be looking into creating a website for that work. I'm really looking forward to getting to know all these amazing authors and illustrators. They will launch an e-zine this winter - Guardian Angels Kids. I worked on an e-zine before and they are great marketing tools.

Tomorrow evening I'll meet with my teammates from our parish festival for the appreciation dinner. While I'm not crazy about the menu, I'm looking forward to seeing this great group of volunteers one last time. Then it's on to other things for me and for them.

BTW, I defrosted the freezer on purpose...I hope it will soon contain a new supply of venison to go with the grouse that recently came home. I hope you get to enjoy the splendor of fall colors wherever you live. If the sun would come out (crosses fingers for tomorrow), I'm sure it would still be spectacular here.

Until the next time.
